Razer Naga MMO Gaming Mouse: Is This The Gaming Mouse You’re Looking For?

Who doesn’t love a good MMO?

There’s something absolutely magical about stepping into a fantasy world and meeting up with a couple of friends—or possibly making a few new ones—while completing quests and journeying throughout the lands. This is exactly the sort of collaboration that makes gaming so great.

Unfortunately, playing some MMOs means using a lot of different buttons during battles, and that can be tough if you don’t have the right mouse for the job. We wrote up this review of the Razer Naga to give you an idea of what you can expect to get if you buy this mouse. We also compared it to a few of the other MMO gaming mice on the market to help you make the best decision.

What Is a Gaming Mouse?

When most people buy a new mouse, they simply look for the most reasonably priced option from a brand they know. This might be fine if you only use your computer for browsing the web, writing, or watching videos, but you need more from your mouse if you want to use it for gaming. Gaming mice are designed to give you more precision and added features that you won’t find in a regular mouse, which equates to a smoother gaming experience.

The most important thing to remember when you’re buying a gaming mouse is that you need different types of mice for different kinds of games. If you are playing a shooting game, then you need to have ultimate precision. Since pressing the wrong key could mean death, you don’t want a mouse with too many buttons. An MMO gaming mouse such as the Razer Naga, on the other hand, is designed specifically to give you tons of different programmable buttons so you can map all the different functions and spells you need to use in your games.

What Is the Razer Naga?

The Razer Naga is Razer’s entry into the world of MMO and MOBA gaming mice. There are different Razer Naga models, but we’ll be focusing on the standard 12-button model for this review. This mouse is designed to be a somewhat reasonably priced option for high-end gaming, which means it’s got all the functions you’d expect and an ergonomic feel that ensures comfort during long gaming sessions. In terms of design, the Naga is somewhat similar to the Logitech G600 due to its bulky right side, and the overall look of the mouse is equally clean.

While Razer is one of the top manufacturers of PC gaming equipment, the Razer Naga isn’t some crazy expensive mouse with an absurd number of buttons and features. You can find this mouse for a reasonable price, and there’s probably even a store somewhere near you that sells it since it’s such a popular product.Razer Naga Specifications

There are two versions of the Razer Naga: one for MOBAs and one for MMOs. As previously mentioned, we’ll be focusing on the MMO mouse, which features a 12-button thumbpad with programmable buttons rather than a seven-button wheel. The main purpose of this product is to give you a comfortable and precise mouse that lets you map all of your in-game functions, whether you need to make sure your buffs and heals are easy to cast or you’re trying to hit your attack combos more efficiently.

Here’s what you need to know about the MMO version of the Razer Naga gaming mouse.

Design

As far as the design of the Razer Naga goes, it’s pretty similar to the Logitech G600. There isn’t a whole lot going on with the design of this mouse; most of the mouse has the same flat black color and a fairly regular shape. There is a pinky rest on the right side of the mouse that sits where the G-Shift key is on the G600, but the pinky rest doesn’t actually do anything. Instead, it’s simply there to give you a better grip on the mouse. One area where this mouse differs from the G600 is its size; the G600 is a little bit bulkier and better for larger hands.

Another thing to note with the Razer Naga is the design of the thumbpad. You’ll notice that some mice sort of split the thumbpad up into two sections of six, so you can know exactly where you are by feel. However, the Razer Naga has a simple 12-button design where all of the buttons are pretty similarly shaped. If the dual-dish design of the G600 is a bit of a turnoff for you, then you’ll like the Razer Naga’s thumbpad.Build

Build quality is always important when you’re spending a decent chunk of money on something, and a gaming mouse is no exception. Fortunately, Razer offers some of the best build quality you’ll find in gaming mice—especially for the price. The body of the Razer Naga is pretty much what you’d expect from any mouse; it’s made of a durable plastic that’s made even better by the ergonomic shape of the mouse.

The cable is one really nice part about the Razer Naga. A lot of people got used to using wireless mice when they became popular, so they have trouble using a wired mouse that keeps them on too short of a leash. The Razer Naga has a seven-foot braided fiber cable that not only gives you plenty of cord to work with, but also ensures that your Naga will keep working for years.Sensor

While you might not have thought too deeply about your previous mice purchases, things are different when you’re looking for a great gaming mouse. One important thing to look at is the sensor in the mouse you’re buying, as this determines the sensitivity range and the tracking accuracy of the mouse. The Razer Naga uses a 4G 8,200 dpi laser sensor that precisely tracks every movement you make with your mouse on just about any surface. In terms of sensitivity, 8,200 dpi is more than anybody will ever need, as it is enough to give you minor motion sickness if you can’t control it.

Mice also benefit from a higher polling rate, which is essentially the refresh rate of your mouse. The default is 125 Hz, but the Razer Naga has a polling rate of 1000 Hz to ensure everything you do with your cursor is shown on screen immediately. This isn’t the most important thing in the world, but think of it as a complement to the already-great sensor included in the Razer Naga.

Buttons

The most important thing to look for in an MMO gaming mouse is a good button setup. This means finding a mouse that you can comfortably use that also offers enough buttons for your games. MMOs tend to require a lot of buttons, so most MMO gaming mice come with a 12-button thumbpad on the left side where you can map all of your spells and attacks. In addition to these 12 buttons, the Razer Naga also provides left and right clicks, a middle click via the scroll wheel that can also tilt from side to side for two extra buttons, and two buttons behind the scroll wheel where you would normally see a DPI switch. These buttons might be used for DPI switching by default (Razer doesn’t mention if this is the case), but even so, you can still map something else to them.

Additional Features

Aside from all of this, the Razer Naga gives you LED backlighting—although your only color choice is green—and an in-game overlay that allows you to customize your buttons without having to close out of your game. You can even set up different profiles and quickly switch to the profile you need for the game you’re playing at the moment, which is a huge bonus if you play multiple MMOs.

Razer Naga Pricing

The price of the Razer Naga might be its best feature. Sure, it’s a great MMO gaming mouse, but that’s not to say there aren’t better, more expensive options out there. However, you can get your hands on a Razer Naga for about $80, which is one of the lowest prices you’ll find for a quality MMO mouse. Even with that low price, you get excellent design, a great sensor with high sensitivity options, and lots of programmable buttons to take your gaming experience to the next level.

If you opt for something more expensive, then you might get more programmable buttons, and you’re most likely to see improvements in sensor quality, build quality, and design. While the Razer Naga doesn’t have customizable RGB lighting, other mice do. More expensive mice also have a sharper, more “gaming” look to them compared to the Razer Naga.
